Welcome to TOKA MA ITI

Our piece of paradise is hiding at the very end of Greenhill Road at Ngatimoti, Motueka, close to one of the best trout fishing rivers in the world, the Motueka River.

Tokamaiti is 20kms from Motueka township, and 55kms from Nelson city, top of the south island in beautiful GE free New Zealand.

We are developing an organic, health and indulgence retreat on sixty-five acres of rolling pasture and hills. Ten acres is covered in native bush and we are planting more native and exotic trees. Also there is Wwoofers accommodation, solar showers and composting toilets. Tokamaiti is run on solar power with generators as backup.

We have a seventy-tree orchard, which includes apples, pears, plums, golden peaches, nectarines, apricots, black boy peaches and feijoa trees. In the citrus orchard we have mandarins, grapefruit, oranges, lemons. There is also a nut tree orchard. In the two gardens here so far (planning more) a wide variety of vegetables can be found, along with a plentiful supply of Maori potatoes (succulent small coloured potatoes). We have a non-spray and no cats attitude here - and I think our dog Shelby also thinks that way.

We have six horses here at the moment. Two of them are Clydesdales, mother and daughter called Molly and Freya. Pheaton, Sue and Shamus are the 3 riding horses. Our friends the horses do much of the grass mowing.

There are numerous walking tracks in the Kahurangi National Park, which is within a catapulted stone's throw from Tokamaiti.

You can fish for trout in the World famous Motueka River, and also rubber tube or kayak down it.

Our water comes from a bush-covered hill at the top of which is a pyramidal quartz rock. We like to conserve it and keep it clean. Please inform us if you see a dripping tap. Your shower and sink water help to water our garden so we ask you to only use the organic green seaweed based soaps provided.

When disposing of rubbish please sort all food left overs into the following:
  • Organic matter (no egg shells) into compost bin (if you are unsure please ask)
  • All plastic rubbish into bin
  • All paper into box
  • Glass and tins please wash and bring to main house for recycling
  • After using the composting toilet, please add one cup of sawdust.
All our hot water is heated by solar (sun) or wood.

Tools - please return any tools you use to the tool shed.

Horses - if in doubt please ask. We try to take all wwoofers on a cart or wagon ride.

We love to teach you about horses and lots of other things. We love to learn from you. If you speak anything other than English, please be patient while we struggle with it. Our brains are trying to retain their youthfulness and prefer to be used.

Enjoy.....
Tessa and Mike.
